Brain Function and Healthy Chocolate

Todays’ Paris chocolate article explores the link between antioxidants in chocolate and peak brain function. As it turns out, antioxidants improve brain function precisely because they promote healthy blood flow. A steady supply of blood brings oxygen to the brain. Cognitive functions such as memory, reasoning, and concentration are hampered when the brain is deprived of blood.

There have been numerous studies done, that have shown the link between epicatechins and catechins on brain function.

The International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Medicine reported on a study that examined how flavanoids affected mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s dementia.

“Overall, a great deal of evidence suggests that flavanols increase blood flow and perfusion of the brain. In addition, a number of experimental data also suggest that flavanols may delay the onset of neurodegenerative diseases such as AD (Alzheimer’s Dementia) through a number of different mechanisms…The natural antioxidant flavanols decrease the incidence of vascular atrophy and offer many cardiovascular benefits in addition to counteracting oxidative stress via their antioxidant properties. Further, brain vascular atrophy and the development of MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment) are directly linked.”

Epicatechin-rich Xocai X Power Squares are my favorite Paris brain food.

MXI is not the only organization to recognize the link between antioxidants in cacao and cognitive function. In an article called “The Top 5 Brain Foods” found on the website brainready.com, minimally processed cacao beans are listed as number two. Guess what other super food makes an appearance? The acai berry!

Success

Today’s article is about what many people lived by, that eventually evolved into them becoming successful. Below is a brief outline of the things that these hungry and unstoppable people did to  achieve success.

1. They didn’t use excuses.

We all have two voices. There’s the voice that tells us to strive to work hard for what we want to accomplish,  Also to stay focused on the task at hand and to finish it before we move on to the next task.

We also have the voice that tells us to take a break, to think about other things besides what has to be done: for example watch TV, or to visit a site that we like to visit that entertaining (facebook).

In life from time to time we feel like a victim.  It could be a job or promotion that we thought deserved, but don’t ge itt.  No matter who we are, we’re going to be treated unfairly at some point in out life.  We can either feel sorry for ourselves, or use it as motivation.  There’s always something better around the corner.

Nelson Mandela could have used his unjust imprisonment as an excuse to give into his anger. Instead, he used it as an opportunity to learn, grow, and eventually free others.

Listen to your excuses. Understand why you have them. Then figure out how you can use them for good.

2. It wasn’t just about them.

‘Things’ can be a motivation, they can even be a reward, but they can’t be the motivator.  People’s success in life always get there because they made changes in the lives of others, not just their own. If there’s something that drives you, then we’re going to work harder, longer, and we’re going to give more of ourselves to our project.  Yes we can make money when we have the primary goal of making money in mind.  Some might even use that money for good – which is great.  But there’s no fulfillment in simply making money.  And isn’t that the point?

3. Early mornings and late nights.

People who have achieved true success in their lives have worked for it. This might come at the detriment of other areas in their lives, such as family or social life.  But their mission is first and foremost. Until the project is complete, everything else comes second.  There’s literally no substitute for hard work. Abraham Lincoln said, “Things may come to those who wait… but only the things left by those who hustle.” If you want to be successful, you’re going to have to out hustle everyone else.

4. The greatest commodity.

Energy is a huge commodity that is often not talked about. Yes, energy in the sense of fuel and electricity is talked about everywhere, but when it comes to our own energy levels.

The fact is that the more energy we have, the easier it is to focus, and the higher the quality of our work is done.

One of Richard Branson‘s ‘key’s to success’ is staying in great physical shape. So would raised energy levels be the greatest benefit to working out? It may be. Keeping physically fit gives us greater blood-flow to our brain, enhanced alertness and improved focus. Make training a routine part of your life and increase your chances at success – in every meaning of the word.

5. Principles.

History will be kind to me. For I intend to write it.

Winston Churchill had principles. The difference between him and the rest of us, is that he stuck to his principles at all costs. He didn’t waver when they weren’t popular – an extreme rarity in politics. What are your principles? All of us should have them, know what they are, and live our lives by them.

One of Apple’s principles is to bring change to the world through technology, and they do it with every product they release. Identify what principles you have that guide your life through tough times, obstacles and when things couldn’t be any better. They shouldn’t change,  neither should you.

Have A Healthy Heart with Xocai “Healthy Chocolate”

4 07 2012

Since I made the decision to sell Xocai  chocolate I have become very aware of the health benefits associated with eating dark chocolate!  There are many more than you would think – I was surprised at the long list of benefits. I wanted to share this information with you.

I have read many studies over the last two years  that have been done with dark chocolate, in  that it helps to keep your heart healthy.  It has been well documented that raw cocoa has protective effects on the heart & vascular system.  Studies have shown that cocoa’s anti-oxidants, help to neutralize the free radicals; thus minimizing stress & relieving inflammation.  Cocoa can stimulate the production of nitric oxide, which helps to relax blood vessels.  Research has shown that cocoa, can help improve platelet function thus decreasing blood clots.  Studies have shown that dark chocolate, helps to control people’s blood pressure.

I hope that you have found this information helpful and any feedback or ideas yo might have are always welcome!

Favourite Eateries

27 06 2012

As I said in last week’s article, I love food! It seems logical this week to talk about the restaurants I like to frequent! While growing up, I went to many different food establishments. I have narrowed it down to five.  Here they are:

I love going to Kelsey’s restaurants because it is roomy and a quiet atmosphere and the staff are always friendly. When I go to Kelsey’s I always order the wing and rib combo. You always get a large portion of food where I usually end up taking the left overs home. Overall, it is a great place to eat!

I sometimes enjoy eating at East Side Mario’s. The first time I went there it felt like a fun and relaxing atmosphere. There is always music playing. When I go there I love to order pasta. ( I know as I write this you may be thinking what else would someone order at an Italian restaurant?). I love a restaurant that offers endless salad and garlic bread! Eastside Mario’s is known as the “Big Red Tomato”.

The very first time I went to the King’s Buffet restaurant I thought that I had died and gone to heaven when I saw the huge buffet! There are two main reasons I like this restaurant: it has a large assortment of chinese food to choose from and their buffet is all you can eat.

I love going to Red Lobster for special occasions, especially birthdays. When I go there I usually order shrimp although I do enjoy eating lobster.Every meal comes with salad and garlic buns.

Although there are many hamburger establishments I enjoy eating from Harvey’s – the only place that allows you to personalize your burger (and it’s Canadian too!). When I was in college, I ate there quite frequently.

Let me know what your favourite restaurants are!

My Favourite Foods

19 06 2012

When I was deciding to write another article for my blog food came to mind. We all have favourite things to do and eat. I thought it might be interesting to share my top food pics with you and I’d love to hear yours!

It shouldn’t be surprising that chocolate is at the top of my list! (considering it is the heart of my business) When I was growing up, I loved eating chocolate and I must confess it was not the healthy kind, but it was good! I still love eating chocolate, but I can say honestly it is good for me!

I remember when I was 13 years old cold pizza was fast becoming one of my favourite foods…for breakfast! As I have gotten older, the urge for eating pizza for breakfast has dwindled away. Now, I enjoy hot pizza for dinner or a snack. One of items that I like on pizza is pineapple, which I rarely have an opportunity to enjoy.  The reason is not many like pineapple on their pizza, so the items that I get on my pizza are pepperoni, bacon, mushrooms, extra cheese, and sometimes onion.

I love going to Chinese food buffets! So much food – so little time! I enjoy eating sweet & sour chicken balls, pork fried rice, sweet & sour shrimp, and sweet & sour boneless pork spare ribs; and my all-time favourite item is almond soo guy.

I remember when Taco Bell came to town – the first time I ever had Mexican food and it was spicy! Three kinds of Mexican food that I like eating are tacos, burritos and nachos. Of the two types of tacos, I prefer eating soft shell as opposed to the traditional hard shell – they aren’t quite so messy!

Spaghetti was the first pasta I ever had – in fact before it was even called pasta! (Have I dated myself?)  One of my favourite pasta dishes is angel hair pasta cooked in garlic oil with shrimp. The Olive Garden Restaurant gave me my first introduction to this wonderful dish. Although the Olive Garden is no longer in Canada, I have fond memories of enjoying many great times with family and friends.

I’d love to hear your favourites and any experiences you have had with great food!

Are You Wanting to Slim Down?

Are You Wanting To Slim Down?

Throughout the winter months of the year, weight gain is usually a person’s worst enemy.  It is known that January, is the biggest month for people to start dieting.  People who enjoy consuming chocolate, but are worried about all the calories; can now be at ease.  With a healthy chocolate option it’s called Xocai, although Xocai healthy chocolate is relatively new on today’s market, but is quickly gaining popularity with people.

Jeanette Brooks the co-founder of Xocai, the original antioxidant chocolate manufacturer &  creator of Xocai Weight Loss Chocolate. She is living proof that Xocai healthy chocolate is not only ‘non-harmful’ (though that would be a significant fact on its own) it is ‘health enhancing’.   I have noticed a significant difference in my health,  as I regularly enjoy Xocai Chocolate every day.

Here is some great news for all chocoholics and dieters! In June 2010, Xocai (the antioxidant dark chocolate company) sponsored a weight-loss pilot study which followed 50 participants. The healthy chocolate dieters substituted 2 meals daily with the X-Protein Meal Replacement Shake.

The study has concluded and I am excited to report that the Xocai review results are phenomenal! The total combined chocolate weight loss was 1,569 pounds! That’s an average of 31 pounds per person! I’d like to see Weight Watchers, Nutri-System, or Slim Fast users match that!

Another key health factor is waist circumference. The average reduction for the Xocai chocolate diet participants was 5.8 inches. How many of you boomers want to shrink your muffin tops by eating dark chocolate?

The following information about the Xocai chocolate weight loss plan explains some of the reasons for the outstanding results.

  • Use of a protein shake with cocoa and complex carbohydrates reduces     the normal pain in the body usually experienced after vigorous exercise by people.
  • Increased levels of omega 3 assist in weight loss.
  • Whey protein isolate is very effective in weight loss.
  • Reporting to an interactive web page or participating in a weekly call increases compliance.
  • Socially interactive diet programs maximize weight loss.

Who Wants to be an Entrepreneur?

Who Wants To Be An Entrepreneur

Have you ever dreamed of owning your own business but have never taken the next step? What’s stopping you? Do you feel like you don’t have enough business experience? Are you nervous about the economy? Are you afraid it is going to cost too much to get going?

If your dream of business ownership is ever going to become a reality, you need to do something soon. How about today?

Before I launched my home business, I also had concerns about my entrepreneurial capabilities, the initial start-up costs, and running a network marketing business in a shrinking economy.

I am glad I talked to an experienced network marketer or I wouldn’t be where I am today.

My network marketer helped me overcome all my concerns.

I am a Novice Marketer based in Paris, Ontario. CANADA.  I believe any determined Entrepreneur can be successful if they learn what will help them grow their home businesses inOntario.CANADA.

Knowledge is critical. Obviously, it is important to learn about your product or service. I sell online and in person at local events.

The reason I started my own Xocai business was because I am passionate about their products.

With marketing experience, a comprehensive knowledge of the product features, and the unique compensation plan, I thought I knew everything I needed to build my Paris sales network. What I didn’t realize is that I needed to shift the focus away from myself and my business. I needed to learn about my prospect. I had no idea who my perfect prospect was.

I decided to create a profile of the ideal prospect. Soon I was able to recognize which prospects would choose the home business opportunity. I recommend that those new network marketing do what I did and develop a profile of their perfect team member.

Ask yourself: Where does this person live? How old is this person? What are his/her values? What kind of work background does he/she have? What hobbies do they enjoy? What are their career goals?

Creating a profile of your target prospect helps you focus your recruiting efforts.

If you would like more information about building a residual income business, or purchasing product contact me at mxi.myvoffice.com/patnewstead or 519-757-2751. I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you.

Take a minute and ask yourself this question: What makes YOU happy?

After talking to family and friends I have come to realize that the answer to this question is that there is  an endless list of possibilities! There are many things that make people happy:  family, friends, love and money are a few.

When I started to think about what made me happy, it was difficult to narrow down the list!   I have always found it very satisfying to be involved in my local community.
